Snow Play

We decided to try out a new idea today - painting the snow.  Not sure where I got the idea, somewhere in blogland.  It’s just food coloring and water in spray bottles.  Here, Mady is writing her name (click on photo to enlarge).

Rylan didn’t know what to think. Especially when Dad stuck him in a snow drift!

We also built a snowman.  It was the first time Devon and I have ever played in the snow together (I pretty much hate snow usually, but it was warm enough that it was bearable). It was kind of romantic – until we bonked heads putting the middle on the snowman!

Yes, Devon is wearing shorts.  And the face and buttons on the snow dude is real spray paint (not the food coloring/water mix Mady was using – It’s real black spray paint. Leave it to Devon!)

Valentine’s Wreath

I used this tutorial from The Idea Room.  This is one of my favorite wreaths and was super easy!

I ♥ Project Life

I use Project Life by Becky Higgins

So I've totally been bummed that I haven't done much scrapbooking lately.  I write down random things that my kids do (I had started a journal of one or two sentences a day with "What do I want to remember today?" but then wasn't even consistent at doing that.)  I had the first edition of Project Life in the box, in a closet still.  I really wanted to use it (as I'm so obsessed that I bought the new turquoise edition as well but didn't even have 2010 done yet!)

So a couple weeks ago I sat down and chose the photos to use (all 365+) for 2010 and put them in a folder on my computer. I had too many so I merged a lot of them using Picasa. I ordered them all from Shutterfly.  When they arrived, I sat down and inserted all of them in a 3 hour timeslot one night.  Not too bad to have a base scrapbook for the WHOLE YEAR finished in one night.  A couple days later, I quickly stamped the date cards with the week.  Now I'm working on the journaling by referencing my "What do I want to remember today" journal, my blog, facebook and my memory.  It's so invigorating to have that full year's worth of an album mostly put together within a short timespan.  Mady enjoys picking out which card I will do the journaling on and helping with the day of the week stickers.

I'm hoping to get to work on the 2011 version quite soon, and I made a new year's resolution to scrapbook more this year, for my kiddos!

Here's to Project Life in 2011!  Thanks Becky!

Book Review

An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination: A MemoirAn Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination: A Memoir by Elizabeth McCracken

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Loved it. It was like she was reading my mind/feelings. Difficult to read after losing a child, but one of those reads that makes you feel better. I read it in one sitting. It's in my "Do not let anyone borrow" list.

John Deere Love

At least Devon is getting a lot of use out of that John Deere beast he calls a lawn mower…
